PARADIP PORT Paradip Port is the deepest inner harbour port in the country. The hinterland of the abounds in minerals and metals and other resources spread over the State of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Location Paradip Port is situated at a Latitude 20o15’ – 55.44" North and Longitude 86o40’ – 34.62" East. It is 210 nautical miles south of Calcutta and 260 nautical miles north of Visakhapatnam. Port Facilities Berthing particulars:
The fertilizer berth is designed as the captive berth for Paradeep Phosphates Ltd., to handle bulk and liquid cargo by fully mechanised means. The iron ore berth has a jetty width of 12.5 mtrs. Maximum LOA of vessels accepted is 260 mtrs. and maximum beam of vessels accepted is 40 mtrs. Rated capacity of the plant 2500 mt/hr. There are two rotary type wagon tipplers of 2500 mt/hr. capacity and each one can tipple 25 wagon/hr. Annual throughput of the plant 4 million tonnes with average daily loading 20,000 tonnes. The berth is now being used for mechanical loading of iron ore and thermal coal. The berth can also be used for bulk loading/unloading of other ores by ship gears. Cargo/Container Handling: The cargo berths are multipurpose in nature and generally used by vessels for loading of thermal coal, chrome ore, manganese ore, charge chrome, ferro chrome, ferro manganese steel coils and for unloading of coking coal, hard coke, limestone, foodgrains, fertiliser, D.B.M., steel billets, scraps, etc. The port also offers LASH operation. Facilities also exist for handling limited number of containers. The stack-yard close to the cargo berth can accommodate a good number of containers. The containers are to be discharged by the ship’s own cranes/derricks or by wharf cranes on the berth. There are four wharf cranes of 13.2 mt. capacity each. Mooring Berth: There is a mooring berth near the fertiliser berth. Vessels upto 200m LOA and upto 11.00 mtr. draught can be moored in this berth. Slipway A 500 tonne slipway is available for repair and maintenance of smaller crafts. Wet Basin A wet basin for port craft is available close to the shipway. There is a well equipped central workshop for repair and maintenance of port equipment. Storage There are five transit sheds and one fertiliser shed available in the cargo berth area. Besides, these sheds, there are four warehouses and open storage facilities available inside the port. i) Transit shed

iii) Open Stackyards At present 2,20,300 sq. mtrs of open stacking area is available inside the port for storage of more than 13 lakh tonnes of different cargoes. These stackyards are connected with rail and road. Additional stackyard of over 1,00,000 sq.mtrs. are under construction. Equipment: The port has at present the following equipment for efficient and smooth loading/unloading operations.
Future Plans
Expression of interest has been received recently from 7 reputed firms for setting up a clean cargo berth on BOT basis. A feasibility study will be taken by the Port now based on which detailed offers will be invited through an open tender. A feasibility study on container handling has been done by CONCOR showing potential for regular container handling through this Port. A detailed traffic assessment study undertaken by TCS will be submitted by them shortly. The Port will then invite offers from interested parties for setting up required container and other cargo handling facilities.
