KANDLA PORT

Founded in 1952, and declared a major port in 1964, Kandla is situated at the eastern end of the Gulf of Kutch and western bank of the Kandla Creek, on the west coast, north of Mumbai. This natural harbour serves as an effective shelter, even in stormy weather. Kandla’s natural advantage is its dry weather and mild monsoon, which minimizes loss of man-days, as well as damage to the cargo.

The 6th major port in India, Kandla is a key one in the region, and plays a major role in the country’s international trade. Having notched up a string of successes, it has emerged as a forerunner, and has carved a niche for itself, by its steady growth and economy of operations. Maximum output, excellent infrastructure, all-round services and cost-effectiveness have all made Kandla the No.1 Indian port among 11 major ports in the country.

Connectivity

A gateway to the north-west, due to a unique locational advantage it accesses a vast hinterland of one million square kilometers, stretching up to Jammu and Kashmir by meter-gauge & broad-gauge Railway systems and National Highway No. 8A.

Peaceful industrial relations and a disciplined work force with emphasis on efficiency, expansion and economy have made Kandla a favoured port among users. A little over four decades old, it is already being seen by many as the Most Preferred Port.
